In response, NIST developed the "Framework for Improving Critical Infrastructure Cybersecurity" on February 12, 2014. This voluntary framework establishes a set of industry standards and best practices to help organizations manage cybersecurity risk, regardless of the size of the organization or complexity of the cybersecurity posture. It focuses on the organization's specific business drivers to guide the cybersecurity activities so that cybersecurity risk is managed in a manner appropriate to each individual organization.
